QUICK COLOR PALETTE DEVELOPMENT EXAMPLE
This is a project I am currently working on and the chapter in the process where I needed to select ALL of the colors for the contractor so his painting crew could continue working. Creating the color palette is an important, neigh, critical aspect of all projects and something that I love to do and take very seriously.
I typically begin by understanding the colors in furniture to be used, selections of flooring and fixtures however, in this project no actual furniture was available to me because when I was hired the project was underway and the home was empty. So, I relied on photos of their previously furnished home and 2 actual rugs; one that the homeowners already had, and, one that we selected and purchased for another downstairs room.
MY, SLIGHTLY ABBREVIATED, PROCESS OF COLOR PALETTE DEVELOPMENT
1.) I start with a conversation with my clients about the home and their feelings about color (I also always pay attention to the colors of the clothes they wear, which is always a big clue on color direction.)
2.) This is followed by a creative session in my office where we review images of rooms to identify what motivates them. For this project, taking this information along with the two rugs and the furniture we intended to use in the house, I came up with a broad brush of color selections.
3.) We review these color selections in the house and in the actual rooms where I plan to put them.
4.) From there we go big. I take client input on the broader options, that we edit together, and I put large samples of those on the walls so they can be viewed day and night.
5.) I then pull my final color palette together and we collaborate on very final choices and voila, we have our color palette.
Now I can pull together other critical elements like; fabric for couches, chairs, wallpaper, and accessories and the picture of the redecorated home comes into full (albeit mental for the time being) view.
I just love this process! It's collaborative, it's creative and it's ALWAYS very satisfying to me as the designer and the clients who get to live in their new, magically delicious home!

FOR A COLOR CONSULTATION, GIVE ME A CALL.
Choosing color is so often a stumbling block for people renovating their home, or even a room. Everyone wants their home to have a "flow" and not too many people want the same color throughout the house. There is also "sheen" to consider, which is also critical, and, when to paint moldings or ceilings, or where to go bold and make a statement. It can be overwhelming! I'm here to help. Color palette development is an aspect of my work that I really enjoy and consider a specialty. So, know that you don't need to go it alone. If you find yourself in the overwhelmed category, give me a shout.
